Why I Love Detox Baths!! (and Vinegar Baths too!)

detox baths

I knew detox baths existed, but I didn’t know why or how effective they were, outside of helping a sprained ankle or sore body. Detox Baths are the business!

Why I love Detox Baths

Detox Baths:

  • Boost the immune system
  • Calm little bodies down before bed
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Helps absorb nutrients
  • Relax the nervous system

Do you see why I love detox baths?

Before we begin, this is key to remember. Detox baths are meant to help your body absorb the greatness in the water. Please do not use soaps or personal care products. Think of this bath as purely a power soak, rather than for cleansing.

Here’s my easy Detox Bath recipe / steps (find all detox ingredients here):

Step 1: To bathtub filled with water very warm (not hot), add 1/4 cup of baking soda to neutralize the water if it’s not de-chlorinated. Let it dissolve for about 5 minutes

Step 2: Add 2 tablespoons of Bentonite Clay binds and removes metals (Oh yes) – optional This will make the water look brown and dirty, just an FYI

Step 3: Add 1/2 cup of Epsom Salt/Flakes, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, & a fav essential oil (optional)

Safety Note: Fill the tub to a safe height depending on the ages of the little ones, enough to cover their legs

I give my kids detox baths once a week or more frequently if they are sick. I LOVE them for myself too 🙂 or after a hard workout (ok running after the kids and errands lol) Next up: Vinegar Baths….

Apple Cider Vinegar Baths:

Now let’s switch it up to Apple Cider Vinegar Baths! Why would you use this in your bath water? Well doctors have found that bleach baths for children and adults with eczema keeps skin bacteria under control. It kills off bad bacteria. Bleach baths, while they work, are a bit harsh and not to mention, toxic. Even though you’re adding a small amount to the full bathtub of water, apple cider vinegar is a great alternative. Those with eczema have high levels of bacteria on the skin which can lead staph infections if not properly treated. Especially with little fingers constantly scratching the skin, introducing more bacteria to the damaged skin more frequently than those who don’t.  They have the same bacteria fighting properties, yet it’s much safer for you and your little one.

  • Kills bad bacteria
  • Less drying and helps relieve itching!
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Immune Boosting nutrients
  • Slows yeast growth

Again, this antibacterial bath is meant to help kill off bad bacteria. Please do not use soaps or personal care products for this bath. Think of it as purely an antibacterial soak, rather than for cleansing.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Step 1: To warm water (not hot), add a 1/2 cup to a cup of Bragg’s Raw Apple Cider Vinegar to a tub full of water (at a safe height for the littles). You can increase it to up to 4 cups for adults as long as it’s not irritating to the skin. Take it slow.

Step 2: Soak for about 10 minutes

Step 3: Rinse your little off if you can’t stand the smell, then pat to damp (try not to rub or pat the skin to dry, the skin is craving moisture and has a hard time retaining it.)

Step 4: Apply creams of choice to damp skin.

From here you can choose to wet wrap with water and creams (great photos with step by steps too) OR apply moisturizers / creams and continue with your day or head to bed.

Do this up to 2 times a day for bad flare ups and then go to once or twice a week after it’s under control.
