Navigating Easter with Eczema and Your Little One

easter with eczema, easter activities

Does your child have food allergies that trigger their eczema? This can get super complicated for mommies and daddies that want to celebrate Easter with their kiddos! Easter weekend can prove to be a challenging weekend when it comes to family gatherings, easter egg hunts, and school events.

Ingredients found in Easter candy like milk, soy, and added sugars can lead to some pretty extreme flare ups in some toddlers.

So, what can you do to make sure your little eczema warrier doesn’t feel left out when everyone else is collecting Easter candy?

Find alternative Easter candy.

Look for Easter treats that don’t include ingredients that irritate your child’s eczema! If you pop on over to Google you can find a ton of dairy-free, added sugar-free, soy-free options! We are lucky to be living in a time where there is more awareness of these allergies! These alternatives might not taste as good as the traditional Easter candy that you grew up with, but they get the job done!

Make a candy-free Easter basket.

Make an Easter basket that is full of fun (non-candy) items. This is a great way to take the focus off of the food and give them something to keep their minds distracted from the eczema itches!

  • Toys
  • Books
  • Flash cards
  • Board games
  • Baseball cards
  • Bubbles
  • Marbles
  • Hula hoops
  • Stamps
  • DVDs

Get everyone on board.

Be sure to supply aunts, uncles, and grandparents with these alternatives so that you don’t need to take certain candies away! It’ll be much easier if they are given the alternatives instead of having to replace the candy that is given to them with alternatives. You can also suggest alternatives to Easter candy like toys and books. Communication is key! They might now know that chocolate and candy irritate your child’s eczema. Simply talking to them ahead of time will help ease the situation.

It doesn’t have to be all about the food!

Have family coming over and not sure how to distract the kiddos from the Easter candy? Organize games and activities that don’t involve food! Do a quick google search for Easter crafts and games that will entertain your children and family during Easter weekend! It could be as simple as having an Easter egg hunt with stickers instead of chocolate and candy.
