How To Use Tallow For Eczema Flare Ups

Chances are that you many have never heard of tallow before – but it’s quickly gaining a reputation for being one of the most effective home remedies for eczema, dermatitis, acne, and other skin issues! This all-natural balm-like material is the rendered fat of a variety of barnyard animals like cows and sheep, and while its popularity is relatively new, it has a long and impressive history of use.

The Real Benefits Of Tallow For Eczema

Tallow used as part of a balm recipe can deliver some really impressive benefits to the skin. Later on in this article I’ll show you a simple tallow eczema balm recipe I use to put this nourishing material to work. For now, let’s look at some of the benefits you may see when you use it as part of your child’s eczema treatment…

  • The way that tallow fat is organized mimics human skin. Unlike many oils and balms, tallow is super easy for the skin to absorb and work with, and its nutrients get to work on a cellular level in a more efficient way.
  • Tallow is super rich in a variety of minerals that are known to help soothe, heal, and protect the skin.
  • Tallow balm is a naturally anti-inflammatory material that can help bring relief to even the most intense eczema flare ups in a matter of hours.
  • Tallow has cleansing properties that can help it cleanse the skin it gets rubbed on.

When it comes to eczema, tallow can help bring deep hydration and mineralization to the skin while also adding a layer of protection. It goes on easy, lasts a long time, and penetrates deeply into the skin for lasting effects.

How To Make Eczema Tallow Balm

This recipe is so simple! Try it out in your own home and see why this has become one of my favorite go-to balms to treating everything from eczema flare ups to dry skin.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

2 cups Tallow from grass-fed animals

1 Tablespoon Extra virgin olive oil or jojoba oil – jojoba is often best

5-10 drops Essential oils (optional) like lavender, thyme, and calendula

Container(s) with tight-fitting lids

How To Make The Balm:

Over medium-low heat, melt the tallow in a metal pan. Watch it closely and make sure that it only gets warm enough to liquefy, not cook. Once the tallow becomes liquid, go ahead and turn the heat off. Stir in the oil of your choice and add any essential oils you may choose to use. Remember the essential oils go a long way so start with a few drops and add more as desired.

While the mixture is still liquid and slightly warm, pour it into one or several containers that have tight-fitting lids. The mixture will go solid again in a matter of hours at which point you can use it like a regular balm.

To keep your balm lasting longer, store it in the refrigerator. This also helps create a deeply cooling sensation when applied to hot, itchy skin.

I order from fannie and flo on etsy, grass fed, organic (this part is so important! ! And so reasonably priced for either whipped tallow, or, well, just rendered suet…tallow. I’m no expert, but this is the first moisturizer my lo has been able to tolerate without pain! Severe eczema began at only 6 weeks old, and I tried everything on the market, and natural, home remedies. He’s 4 1/2 now. No essential oils for him, his skin didnt tolerate then. We swear by just a bit of organic evoo, and tallow, and now I use it as well in addition to my anti aging regimen (obviously needed post motherhood! ) may every eczema sufferer discover the joys (or at least done relief) of tallow!
