Fun & Hassle-Free Ways To Keep Your Toddler Happy And Busy

fun play activities for toddlers

If you’re the parent of a toddler with allergies, you already know that a bored child means a lot more scratching! Kids often need a constant stream of stimulating activity in order to keep their stress levels down, imaginations up, learning in progress, and mind off the itching. Many parents, myself included, have experienced the burnout and frustration that can come from needing to always have ‘something to do’ on hand at every moment. In hopes of making this job easier on all of us, I’ve been collecting some fun activities that can be done at home or on the go with items you probably already have around the house. These activities often keep kids busy for hours, and they inspire kids to get creative and have fun!

Here are some of my favorites from a variety of online sources which I’ll link to below…

Color Matching

This is a fun, easy, and engaging way to help kids learn and keep them busy – plus you can use pretty much anything you have on hand!

You can give kids a color and task them with finding 5 or 10 items in the house they can carry of that color, and then have them replace those items before they’re given a new task color.

You can also provide a pile of items like colors paper clips, crayons, pipe cleaners, or blocks and have kids arrange them in order of color.

Play Dough

Most every recipe for homemade play dough includes wheat – something many of us can’t use in our homes due to allergies and sensitivities. I love this recipe for wheat-free play dough – and kids can get hours of play out of it once it’s been made!

Pipe Dreams

Pipe cleaners are such a great craft item to have on hand. They’re super inexpensive, come in a variety of colors, highly sensory, and can be used in endless ways.

Pipe cleaners can be used to make animals, build houses, make chains and flowers, or be inserted into the holes in colanders to build crazy geometric designs.

Pom Pom Play

Those small sized craft pom poms are a favorite for just about any toddler. They’re vibrantly colored, soft to the touch, and they can be used in a million ways. Try using them for:

  • Indoor basketball using a clothes hamper or empty canister
  • Making silly faces
  • Color organizing
  • Size organizing
  • Indoor catch and toss games
