Herbal Poultice Recipes For Eczema

One of the most effective things that healing herbs can be used for is to treat inflammation and soothe the skin. A poultice is an easy way to apply the healing properties of a plant to the skin in the easiest and most hassle free way, and it’s a great option for people who want to avoid heavy chemicals or products for topical skin application. Today, we’re going to look at just a few common medicinal plants that can be used with the approval of your child’s doctor to soothe the skin, deliver important nutrients, and calm inflammation.

Making A Poultice

The easiest way to use an herbal poultice is to brew a strong cup of herbal tea using the herb, soak a clean towel or cotton ball in the tea, then apply to the skin once the temperature is safe. Most herbalists suggest 2 teaspoons of herb to 8 ounces of just-boiling water steeped for about 8 minutes.

Some herbs also work great directly on the skin. They can be briefly soaked in warm water, then laid gently on the skin before being covered with a clean cloth.

In both cases, 3-5 minutes of poultice application is usually a good place to start as you discover how your child’s skin reacts.

Herbs are a gentle and effective way to treat a variety of health concerns, but caution should be used because they can be very potent.
