3 Simple Herbal Skin Soaks

This week we’d like to introduce you to three simple herbal skin soaks that you can use to fight inflammation, irritated skin, and skin issues with the healing power of nature – and how to do it in the most hassle free way possible! Herbal skin soaks allow you to put the healing power of all-natural botanicals right where they’re needed most, and the relief they offer can be drastic and instant. Try these skin soaks and washes out for yourself and see which ones your kids’ skin responds to best!

How To Do An Herbal Skin Soal

This is so easy that you’re sure to use this technique all the time!

We’ll essentially be creating a strong tea and then applying that tea to the skin using a clean cloth.

Start by bringing 16 ounces of water to a boil. Take the water off the heat and add 4 heaping tablespoons of dried herb. Let it steep, covered, for about 10 minutes. Strain, and set the remaining tea aside to cool.

Once the tea is at a safe and comfortable temperature, simply soak some up on a clean cotton, bamboo, or terrycloth rag. Place the rag right on the area you want to treat and allow it to rest there for up to 15 minutes.

Make sure to monitor the area during treatment to watch for redness, swelling, or any signs that the herb you’re working with isn’t the right choice for your child’s skin.

Lavender

Aside the calming and soothing scent, lavender is actually a great healer of the skin. It has antiseptic properties that help gently cleanse the skin, and it is known for soothing and softening skin which can get rid of itching and irritation.

Calendula

This is the go-to herb for all things skin related when floral allergies aren’t an issue. Calendula is a tonic for the skin that penetrates deeply. It cleanses and purifies, pulls out toxins, strengthens the skin, and increased healthy blood flow.

Oatstraw

Oats are known for their affinity with the skin, and oatstraw is a great way to get all the benefits with none of the gluten worries. Oatstraw can help stop itching in its tracks, especially when the tea is cooled in the fridge before use. It’s soothing, hydrating, and carries many minerals and nutrients deep into the skin.

Echinacea

When infections and inflammation are an issue, try an echinacea herbal tea soak. This herb is able to help the skin out with its many antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties – and it gets the job done gently!

 

Herbal soaks can be used warm or cold, and they keep up to 3 days in a lidded jar in the fridge. You can also add them to a spray bottle to help nourish and cool the skin on hot days!
